This season

We had such an amazing time here. The view is absolutely breathtaking. The quietness and nature took us to a completely different level of relaxation. We melted into the green nature and loved the feeling. Thanks to Wendy and Matt for having us and making our stay so memorable. Their recommendations to the nearby restaurants were lovely! Their preparation for our short cycling trip was all so perfect! We enjoyed every bit of it and would refer to our friends and family in Asia!

Kelvin and Viv (June 2013)

From London in the morning to the terrace of La Cabushe in the evening, we couldn't have had a better end to a busy day - absolutely stunning views over the valley, cold wine and delicious cake courtesy of Wendy and Matt and a beautiful sunset. Thank you for a wonderful stay. See you again soon

Julie and Jason (June 2013)

We had a wonderful couple of nights staying in one of the gorgeous yurts. It has been incredibly relaxing cooking out on the terrace and Wendy and Matt are tremendous hosts - the cake and wine, brilliant restaurant advice, and of course learning so much during out lesson using the pole lathe! Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We will certainly be back

Sophia and Ben (June 2013)

Where to start? It’s extremely difficult to explain what a wonderful time we have had here in Bodgers’ Yurt. Having made it here on public transport (train and bus) we were made to feel welcome straightaway. The lemon drizzle cake and bottle of wine were gratefully devoured. You have all worked very hard to make your “island” fantastic and are wonderfully warm and generous people. Our experience could not have been better. We will definitely find it difficult to re-adjust to living under one roof and will miss sleeping “in the round”. Thanks for the pole lathe lesson Matt - I hope to be able to learn more green woodwork back at home from this inspiration and will one day create the ultimate mushroom!  We hope that all of your future dreams and ambitions come to fruition you certainly deserve it! We will definitely recommend you to everyone who listens and even those who don’t! Much love

Natalie and Mike (June 2013)

Second time in your fantastic yurts! Such a peaceful “coin” to relax and unwind. Our only regret from our holidays here is not buying the property here first. We love it! All the best for the future.

Hugo and Estelle (May 2013)

Season of 2012

Yurting history made here! The first couple to return twice in one summer! Thanks so much for another amazing week. Can’t wait until the next visit. Love

Rich and Kel (September 2012)

Thanks for a fantastic week, we’ve had a great and relaxing time. What a fantastic place and amazing hosts - you’ve both been brilliant.  We’ll be thinking of riding tandems in sunshine when cycling through driving rain in Edinburgh!! We’re already planning our return trip, hopefully in the near future.

Karen and Colin (September 2012)

We have had the most amazing break here and wish we could stay longer! Thanks so much Wendy and Matt for being such warm, relaxed and down-to-earth hosts! We loved the bike experience (even the tandem!) and restaurant recommendations. We will definitely recommend you! PS We’re taking Bilbo .....!!

Alice and Bec (September 2012)

Thanks so much for an incredible stay. We’re so laid back now after four days of holiday at chez Devalon we’re practically lying down. We’ll be back for sure.

Will and Sara (September 2012)

Thank you for a wonderful stay - it’s been one of the most stunning and memorable places we have been to . We will no doubt be back!!

Anne and Mark (August 2012)

Wonderful yurts, wonderful location, wonderful hosts! Wish we had spent our whole 2 week holiday here. Would definitely like to return. We have always admired yurts from afar, but now we are smitten. If we ever have the opportunity we would love to return to learn how to make a yurt. Hard work, I am sure, but what a great lifestyle.

Cathy, Tod, Joe and Eddy (August 2012)

Thanks for an unforgettable holiday! We loved the area and the yurt-site and couldn't have asked for nicer hosts! We may try and take Bilbo home with us!

Louise and Pete (August 2012)

We had an amazing time! A perfect place to spend a honeymoon. The yurt is beautifully made and with just enough luxuries to make the stay comfortable whilst retaining the feel of going back to nature. Mat and Wendy - you’ve both been really helpful in making us feel welcome. We will definitely recommend it to others and hope to return ourselves! Thanks again for making our honeymoon so special!!

Kev and Lizzie (August 2012)

Thank you for such a wonderful time and making us feel so welcome and relaxed. This is a magical place that we would love to return to in the future. This is without doubt one of the most stunning places we’ve ever stayed. Beautiful vistas, amazing stars and awesome brownies - the perfect place to stop on our honeymoon adventure. Our very best wishes to you all, love

Nick and Kelly (August 2012)

2nd stop on our honeymoon - one of the best places I can recall staying, stunning views and full sky of stars at night. Perfect place to turn off your phone and relax.

Roy and Aisling (August 2012)

We’ve had an amazing holiday here- such a wonderful place - thank you so much for great company, suggestions of great places, whittling lessons and staying in all three yurts! Thank you, we’ll be sad to go!

Guy and Caroline (August 2012)

Not sure the other locations can possibly live up to what you have created here, on our ‘yurt trip through France’. You have set the bar very high. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and letting us share a small part of your life here. I promise it is just a coincidence that Bilbo goes missing the day we leave!

Gayla and Jon (August 2012)

Thank you for such a wonderful time here. The yurts and kitchens are amazing. What you have achieved is completely inspirational. It was lovely to meet you all and have drinks around the roundhouse. We are sad to be leaving for London. It was the best possible way to end our honeymoon adventure.

Rob and Tam (August 2012)

We had a lovely time - Bodgers’ Yurt is amazing! Such a tranquil and relaxing setting, it was nice to tune out for a few days. We’ll tell people about you!!

Tracey and Bill (July 2012)

Believe it or not we’ve learnt so much about ourselves from our short stay here. Mainly how you can be happy with very little and that is meant as a massive complement ... No electricity, no tv, no waste a truly eco environment in a stunning location. We truly enjoyed the yurt experience: the compost loo even and the outdoor shower the night time lights and lanterns. Thank you for your generous hospitality and kindness. Good luck with your future plans - if they are only a fraction as wonderful as our stay here that will be enough!

Adeline, Alan, Will & Liv (July 2012)

Thank you for such a wonderful few days - it has given us time to relax, admire the views & to think. Your hospitality has been perfect. The ginger cake and breakfasts delicious! We are honoured to have been the first in the Bodgers’ Yurt and look forward to coming back for future holidays in these peaceful surroundings. It will be a shock arriving in Hackney later!

Susie and Ben July 2012

We fell in love with Chez Devalon from the moment we arrived, from the anticipation of strolling down the hill, taking in the spectacular views, the warmest of welcomes from you all and finally relaxing into such a chilled out, wonderful place. The yurt is a dream, coupled with the fab kitchen/living/loo/shower spaces. And oh my god the sausages are brilliant!! Thank you sooo much

Sue and Ashley, July 2012

Absolutely fantastic! Views to die for. Loved having a shower with a view like that. Mark was so happy in the woods making the very first mushroom!! Lovely time, thank you.

Jo and Mark (July 2012)

Thank you for a marvellous stay. We both had a great time and feel very relaxed. A perfect antidote to the pressures of the rat race back home. We both really admire what you do here and particularly loved our breakfasts! Even on the stormy rainy day it was a joy being tucked up in the comfy yurt. We’ll recommend you to our friends and hope to come back wth our baby (yurts, outdoor showers and compost loos even suit pregnant ladies!

Charlotte and Gareth (July 2012)

Possibly the most beautiful place we have stayed - comfortable beds, great facilities, welcoming hosts and a stunning location - thank you. We’d love to return to do more ‘yurting’ and tandeming in the future as this stay hasn’t been long enough! Thank you again. PS Looking forward to the ginger cake!

Caroline and Chris (July 2012)

Sunset, Bilbo, Lettuce, Solstice, Yurt. Is it a code? Yes! To unlock 10 days of awesome relaxingness We had the best time - whether reading in the yurt with the hypnotic rain bouncing off it, enjoying the rising & setting of the sun (and a beer) on the kitchen deck or exploring the Dordogne. It’s also been inspiring - talking with Matt about resilient, natural architecture and meeting all the helpers. Thank you Wendy Matt and all your kids for the welcome, the conversation and especially the great solstice bonfire BBQ! All the best

Fiona and Matt (June 2012)

When we booked through the website we were extremely excited about the prospect of yurting but nothing could have prepared us for the exquisite views, wonderful scenery and first rate hospitality. We were only here 5 days but Matt, Wendy et al, you made us feel as if we’d been here for years. Thank you for your insights into local cultures (Gouts’ food will have to take some beating!) and help with anything we needed. We will certainly be returning and shouting praise for everyone at Chez Devalon to anyone who’ll listen! Lots of love.

Alex and Isobel (June 2012)

The best two nights and three days we’ve spent anywhere in France. Thank you so much.

Hazel and Max (May 2012)

Brilliant setting for our anniversary - managed to keep it a surprise until the very last minute! Gorgeous yurt & scenery & great fun on the tandem bike - albeit a bit wobbly. Thank you for a great experience.

Jennifer and Ian, Edinburgh (May 2012)

Season of 2011

What a wonderful week! We have loved our yurt & living are, made & equipped wit a very talented eye & such a beautiful location! We couldn’t have asked for anything more relaxing - perfect for what we both needed. Thank you Wendy & Matt for being so welcoming & accommodating - your hard work shows & we are excited about your new ideas. Hopefully see you again soon.

Gemma and Ben (October 2011)

Thank you for such a wonderful stay at chez Devalon. We have enjoyed every bit of it - from getting lost in the beautiful countryside to star gazing at night! The yurts are so beautifully made and you just can’t appreciate how amazing the experience is unless you are here! We could not have wished for better hosts and hope to be back in 2012

Olivia and Gareth (October 2011)

Staying here has been the highlight of our honeymoon during which we have tried to leave London behind us and take in the beautiful surroundings and very warm hospitality of Wendy and Matt. We really hope to come back at some point and check out the new projects. We even managed to try out the tandem - a brave move for newlyweds perhaps - and loved it! Thanks for a great three days; missing the lullaby of gentle piggy snoring already!! All the best

Lisa and Russ (September 2011)

We have had a magical honeymoon, it has been everything we hoped for and more! Your place is relaxing and inspiring and you are great hosts. We will come again and also recommend you to friends.

Dan and Polly (September 2011)

Matt, Wendy and family - thank you so much for creating this wonderful place! We very much needed a break from the hustle and bustle of busy UK city life and that’s exactly what we got! We love the rural location, the feeling of isolation, the views, the peace and quiet, the shooting stars, fresh tomatoes, thunder and lightning and bbqing every night. Bliss! The wine and cake on arrival was a lovely welcome, thanks again for a wonderful week, we hope to be back soon!

Michelle and Sam, Bristol (August 2011)

Thanks so much for a wonderful week in La Cabushe. We have loved the yurt, the views, the animals, the bikes, the shooting stars (10 in total), the hot showers, the cold showers, the delicious breakfasts and the hot, hot weather!

Amy and Sam (August 2011)

Thank you for making our honeymoon PERFECT! The yurt and surrounding were beautiful and incredibly relaxing but you took it further by giving us a brilliant evening with the BBQ (we even loved the guitar playing and singing!!). We only wish we could have stayed longer (the bright lights of Paris are not so appealing now!) We hope to be back soon and promise to tell all our friends and family about this place! Love and best wishes

Lucy and Dave (August 2011)

Thank you Wendy and Matt for a lovely stay in Les Abris - I’ve had a wonderful 30th birthday treat here! Thanks so much for your hospitality, you have created something very special here.

Lara, Alex, Kate and Renzo (August 2011)

Superbe location ....... grande experience pour dormir dans une yourte ..... Très bon professeurs. Peut-être à la prochaine ..... Grandes bisous.

Katriens Koen et Zonne (July 2011)

Wow! What an amazing, amazing place. We could never believe somewhere could be so peaceful and beautiful. We had a lovely brilliant time and can’t wait to be back. Thank you.

Sam and Roone (July 2011)

You have found such a wonderful part of the world to live in and really make us feel like you are sharing it rather than just being brief visitors. Am addicted to yurting, the view and the quiet and will no doubt have withdrawals back home!

Andy and Georgia (June 2011)

Thank you all so much, words cannot sum up what a wonderful time we’ve had, thank you all so much for letting us share in the experience you have created, it was perfect! Dan’s Dunny was a must!  We will be back next year in the meantime we will send an advance party of family members in July. This was without doubt the best holiday we have ever had and the memory will stay with us until the next time. Thank you all (we have been con-yurted!!)

Tania and Nigel, South Wales (June 2011)

It’s a wonderful place, perfect setting and wonderful people - definitely come again! Thank you very much.

Amy and Graham (May 2011)

We wish we could have stayed longer and got involved down on the farm. We’ve had the most fantastic time and you truly are the best hosts. I’m sure you’ll see us again in the future and we’ll be sure to recommend it to others. We wish you all the luck with the new yurts and can’t wait to return to see the developments. All the best.

Ian and Ashley, Edinburgh (May 2011)

Please can you write us a note to get us out of work for the summer........ we want to stay!!  Staying in a yurt has been fantastic -  a real experience - but also meeting you guys and hanging out has been great (including Smokey and the Bandit!!).  Thanks so much and we plan on returning in the not too distant future! Big love.

Matt and Jane (May 2011)

Season of 2010

What a fantastic set-up.  We have loved our 3-day stay and look forward to coming back and being “yurties” again!  We’re only sorry we can’t stay longer this time.  Thank you.

Polly, Jon and Freya (September 2010)

Two weeks in the yurt was absolutely fantastic - paradise!!  Loved the variety of things to do.  Had such a brilliant time, great conversation, food.  It’s been lovely to meet you all.

Sophia and George (September 2010)

What luck to have stumbled across this place and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have decided to stay for two nights.  What you have achieved here is an inspiration to us and don’t be surprised if we end up back in the not-too-distant future as apprentice yurt-builders!

Ali and Ed, Norfolk (August 2010)

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in the yurt.  We’ve taken the postcards and will definitely be telling all our friends about you.  We’ll hopefully see you all again soon.

Pete and Sarah (August 2010)

We’ve had an amazing honeymoon here.  Thank you so much.  The yurt and all the other facilities are brilliant.  We would (and will) recommend it to anyone.  Thanks again.  A bientôt.

Sean and Catherine (July 2010)

A peaceful and idyllic location with welcoming hosts.  The yurt was a great base for us to explore the local area and I highly recommend the canoeing at Brantome - just watch out for the water shoot!

Glenn and Clair (July 2010)

Really lovely place to come and relax - we’ve totally unwound.  Thanks for your hospitality.

Debs and Keith, Bristol (June 2010)

Never having seen a yurt before I was slightly anxious about my first stay in a yurt, and at seventy years old I am quite keen on my creature comforts and have never been camping before.  We drove down the lane and saw the yurt perched on a hill with lovely views over woods and hills.  On entering we found ourselves in a beautiful room with a polished wood floor, nice solid furniture and best of all a proper bed.  The light filtering through the canvas walls and domed roof was soft and glowed slightly. I was converted to yurt living!  I am very enthusiastic about the yurts and want to thank you both for such a good time.

Myf, Wiltshire (July 2009)

Here is a video sent to us from some guests who stayed in Le Grand Abri in 2011. They produced the video as their entry into a competition “Go Greenly” for people travelling to a Canopy and Stars holiday destination without their car. We think it gives you a fantastic flavour of a day in the life of a “yurty” at Chez Devalon!

Good luck in the competition Louisa and Kayleigh and thanks for letting us share the video on our website, we absolutely love it and hope you win!
